In demand Microsoft Award for Student Excellence winner joins software leader

Paul Clark, winner of the 2006 Microsoft Award for Student Excellence in the UK and Ireland, has joined Newbury-based contact centre interaction software developer Exony to launch his career in IT. After considering a number of options Clark, who graduated from Lancaster University with a first class degree in Computer Science this summer, elected to join Exony as a software engineer helping to develop its market-leading contact centre management technology.

Clark, 22 of Thatcham in Berkshire, won his award for an innovative traffic management simulator which analysed vehicle flows and varying driver profiles on the M42 motorway.

“I was looking to join an innovative, fast-growing company developing interesting products that match my skill set and which could offer a solid career path,” said Clark. “Exony’s technology is heavily based on Microsoft technologies, which is where my experience lies so I am keen to continue to groom these skills. Working at Exony will enable me to turn my academic work into business benefits for all of its customers.”

Exony recently announced that Microsoft Corp. has selected Exony software to enable Microsoft’s global contact centre management to monitor how calls are routed in real time, enabling rapid response and manual intervention where needed to provide customers with an improved service experience.

Microsoft’s Dr Andrew Sithers said: “Paul’s winning project was a good combination of excellent computer science, good writing and a practical application.  We only make one award to a student in the UK and Ireland each year and it’s very impressive to see a project like this which combines so many elements and which can be carried forward into industry.”

Ian Ashby, CEO of Exony, said the hire demonstrated the strength of the company’s offering. “Being able to offer excellent career development opportunities is core to our beliefs and our business model. We’ve proved that we can attract the very best young talent and we welcome Paul and look forward to helping him develop a successful career in technology.”
